GREEN BLOGS
_Gateway Greening is a St. Louis, Missouri non-profit that promotes civic
greening, urban renewal, and sustainability issues through downtown
civic greening projects, funding and support for more than 100 community
and youth gardens, as well as educational programs and events
throughout the year.
Our blog covers topics related to these issues, and we have recently begun to generate more feature story posts that will appeal to a wide array of gardeners and architects, among others. Additionally, in the weeks to come we will be unveiling a new youth gardening blog that will feature demonstration videos and posts, as well as resource information.

This blog is primarily about a research project I am doing on affordable eco-homes. The aim is to understand how we can create more opportunities for people on low incomes to self-build their own eco-homes in rural areas. The project has three objectives: (1) to identify successful small-scale community-led, self-built eco-developments targeted at low-income potential residents; (2) to understand how such developments have overcome problems of planning, local resistance, organising collectively, finance, and using non-conventional materials; and (3) to identify common successful strategies in creating affordable eco-homes which could be adopted in Britain. I am going to achieve this by visiting successful projects in Britain, Spain, USA, Argentina, and Thailand.
Green Building Blog- follow Jenny now! | Klipper Iselmar- Eco Friendly Holidays and sailing
Since 2009 we are seriously busy with a greener way of doing
business and exploiting our ship. we were rewarded with the golden green key, as one of the first dutch traditional sailingships. by implementing all of these " greener" features on our ship we realised that, sailing itself is one of the greenest way's to travel and enjoy the nature of our dutch waters... From the beginning when we were living and sailing these big ships we were always busy with managing to save water, to have enough for one week, so when we built the ship in 2001, we already built in a seawaterpump to flush our 4 toilets on board.. ( we have 34 guests on 4 toilets, 24 hours a day, just imagine what happens if they drink alot of beer... that is 10 times a day flushing 10 liters of drinking water with 34 passengers! i can tell you, that is lot of water! In 2008 when we had to renew our old dieselengine, we chose an emission-reduced one, which can operate at a lower rpm, thus, saving even more fuel... we still do have need for a motor and a generator in our ship, because our customers still want to blowdry their hair and load their telephones during sailing, and we also want to be independent and give our guests the comfort they need onboard. So when the green key organisation came on or path, we decided that switching to be as green as possible was a good thing, we were already lovers of local food and eco veggies, so the cleaning products, recycle papers and greases for engines and so on followed almost automatically! today we still are busy changing for example our electricity on the ship, to be really independent! As nature lovers we also find it really important that our guests on board really enjoy and experience the sea, wind, sky and nature with all their senses, so we provide them with lots of info and try, to enjoy the waddensea, ijsselmeer and frisian islands and its nature without disturbing it... that is a little bit about our ship and our way of giving our guests an eco friendly holiday on board... PS: have you checked our sailing blog? it is in dutch, but has 100's of beautiful nature pictures from our live on board, and the nature around us, during sailing... www.klipperiselmar.blogspot.com |
